Using folders

Folders can help you organize selected assets, in a similar manner to the way some web applications use bins or carts. You can play the contents of a folder sequentially, change the order of clips within a folder, or share a folder with other users to view.

To use folders, an administrator must first set up and initialize a database for your account to store folders data. If you cannot access your folder, contact your administrator.

To create a folder

  1. To create a folder, click New and follow the wizard.
  2. Name and describe your folder.
  3. You can create as many folders as you like and choose to share any folder with other users as well.

To add clips to a folder

  1. Select the check box next to the folder you want to modify. Once checked, you can edit, view, delete, or play the contents of the folder.
  2. To add assets, click Edit and Add Assets.
  3. Search the index for assets and click Add to Folder for any asset you want to include in your folder. Assets are added in the order in which you add them.

To play a clip or the entire folder contents sequentially

You can choose to play your clips with the RealMedia player or the Windows Media player.

You can modify the order of assets in your folder. For example, to move a selected clip up, click reorder image.

To modify the clips in your folder

If you own a folder, or you are in the Folder Admin group, you can modify your clip in- and out- times or add annotations to describe a clip, for example. To save your changes, click Save to Server. Your changes are saved to the folders database. The changes do not affect the original clips stored in the index, however. The changes are only stored for your folder. So, if you search the index for the same clips and add the same clip to your folder, the new clip will have the original in- and out-times, for example.

To share your folder with other users

If you own a folder or you are in the Folder Admin group, you can share a folder to other users. To share a folder, click Share from the Folder Manager. Other users can view your folder contents and play them, but they cannot modify any of the assets.
